Question: Should I wait until the HVAC system is installed?

Frank writes from Stockbridge, Georgia: "I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area and recently hired someone to hang dry wall in my basement. I prefer to have insulation installed between 2x4 joists on the concrete exterior walls, but the installer indicated I won't need any since those walls are underground. Prior to hanging dry wall, I had problems with high humidity, which I hope should be corrected once the HVAC is installed. Would installing insulation create continual problems with the humidity, or moisture between the drywall and insulation? Or should we leave it without insulation since our winter months aren't long and frigid cold?"

Answer: If you are currently having high humidity and moisture problems, I would wait until your HVAC system is installed. Insulation will not solve the moisture problem. The HVAC system should control the humidity in the basement where it will be safe to install insulation at that time.
