Question: What insulation should I use in my home?

Connor writes from somewhere in the world: "What is better insulation for my house that would be energy efficient?"

Answer: It is good to know you are thinking about insulation for making your home more energy efficient because it is one of the easiest and least-expensive things you can do to improve a home's energy efficiency. While I may be biased, I believe PINK insulation is the best choice for your home. Of course, Owens Corning has a trademark for the color PINK used with insulation products so that means they are available exclusively from the sponsor of my blog.

PINK insulating products are available as FIBERGLAS™ batts and blowing wool, and FOAMULAR® extruded polystyrene foam insulation. The foam products are primarily used around foundations and for exterior sheathing, the fiberglass products are used in attics, walls and crawl spaces.

PINK insulating products are affordable and readily available. They also pay for themselves quickly by reducing home heating and cooling costs. A typical pound of insulation saves 12 times as much energy in its first year in place as the energy used to produce it. This means the energy consumed during manufacturing is saved during the first 4 to 5 weeks of the product's use. The insulation continues to save this amount of energy every month throughout the life of the home in which it is installed.

To get an idea of how much insulation you should install, check the R-value recommendations section of the Owens Corning Web site.

In summary - count on PINK insulation to keep you comfortable and save energy.
