Home | Question: How long does it take for an energy efficient computer to pay off? | Question: How should I insulate my unfinished walk-out basement?

Question: What kind of insulation should I use in my basement?

Francisco writes from Waltham, Massachusetts: "I need to put insulation in my basement and I'm not sure it kind of insulation I should use."

Answer: It would be helpful to know whether you want to insulate for thermal benefits (energy efficiency) or noise control. The products and amount of insulation can be different in each case.

If you want to insulate your basement walls for thermal benefits, you can find detailed explanations with pictures for two options by clicking on the words Basement Walls and Foamular® Rigid Foam Insulation for Basement Walls. One page describes the process for using PINK fiberglass insulation and the other one covers PINK foam insulation.
