Question: Can I use both fiberglass and foam?
Chris writes from Schenectady, New York: "I am remodeling an older house with stucco over solid sheathing on 2x4 exterior walls. The exterior walls are currently not insulated. To match the existing thickness of the plaster + lath walls with drywall, I need an overall stud thickness of 4 1/4". What is the best way to insulate this wall? I was considering kraft faced R-15 in the 3 3/4" cavity and 1/2" rigid foam over the studs. Will this provide an adequate vapor barrier?"
Answer: Yes, the Kraft facing is the recommended residential vapor retarder.
