Home | Question: Is there a major problem with using the faced rolls I purchased? | Question: Can we install insulation around wiring without causing a fire hazard?

Question: Can you add rolled insulation over blown-in, and what is the best way to install it?

Paula writes from Newport, Maine: "We just built a house this year, and I don't think there is enough blown in insulation in the attic. My question is can you add rolled insulation over blown in, and what is the best way to install it?"

Answer: Yes, you can install rolled insulation over blown-in loosefill insulation. We recommend adding unfaced insulation to any existing attic insulation to avoid having a double vapor retarder which could trap moisture. There is information on the Owens Corning website about Adding Insulation to an Attic.
