Home | Question: Are you sure I shouldn't insulate the rafters? | Question: Is it OK to apply PINK foam sheets directly onto concrete block?

Question: Do I need to install the foam channels?

Lex writes from East Islip, New York: "Our roof was recently replaced with a ridge vent. I have removed our original 1953 "fiber" insulation. Do I need to do anything differently because of the ridge vent? For instance, before I install new insulation do I need to install the foam channels?"

Answer: Sounds like a good idea to me. Without the channels or baffles, insulation could get blown or pushed too close to the roof deck and block the flow of ventilation up from the eaves. You should have the same amount of ventilation at the eaves as you do at the ridge. There is information on the Owens Corning website about installing raft-R-mate® attic rafter vents.
