Question: Which way should the facing face?

Tyson writes from Buckner, Missouri: "I have a non-finished ceiling in a non-heated garage under the house with bedrooms above. I would like to insulate and finish the ceiling above the garage, would you suggest faced or non-faced insulation, and if faced, which way should the facing face?"

Answer: Faced rolled FIBERGLAS™ insulation is recommended in the garage ceiling. The paper vapor retarder should be installed up toward the heated living area. We generally refer to this as the warm-in-winter side.
